Gimbri – Plucked Instrument
The Gimbri is a three-stringed bass covered with skin, originally from Morocco. It is actually a lute, producing deep, but also somewhat harsh and earthy tones thanks to its wooden body and goat gut strings. Often compared to a bass guitar, the Gimbri brings depth to music thanks to its low dynamic range.
The focus was on capturing the Gimbri’s various articulations while maintaining its organic and warm sound. Traditionally played fingerstyle, we recorded it muted, with a pick, and through an amplifier to provide a wide range of tones. It comes with five presets, while the possibility of custom settings is left open.
